Police have reassured residents in Greenfield that they were never in any danger, following a dramatic incident on Thursday afternoon.
Officers were called to a house on Chew Brook Drive after reports of a suicidal man. According to the police, they had been informed that the man had access to firearms. Armed response units were sent to the address, but the man gave himself up. Nobody was injured.
The man has since been admitted into hospital for observation. Officers seized a number of firearms from the address as a precautionary measure.
Inspector Scott Winters said: “I can understand this incident must sound extremely concerning to people in the local community, but I would like to reassure them that at no point was there any threat to any members of the public.”
He added: “The man had a firearms license but we have now made a referral to the licensing board that this is to be reviewed.”
Take em off him!
Unsuitable article Saddleworth News!
The firearms should be removed altogether and firearms license revoked.
Why a person needs to own a gun in suburbia is anyones guess, I believe guns should only be kept by the army and the police etc. Not by random individuals.
I’m intrigued by Claire’s comment. In what way do you consider this unsuitable?
I know it’s a sensitive topic, but surely it should not be ignored.
It would be interesting to know if Amanda is a resident in Saddleworth or a town dweller from Oldham. Greenfield, and Saddleworth in general, is a semi-rural area and there are many perfectly legitimate reasons why a person should be granted a firearms certificate. It is the firearm holders without certificates which we should be worried about.
No problem Dr Scott regarding people holding the correct certificates and legal bumpf. However, after the horrid killing of three ladies (and the injury of a fourth) in the North East on New Years Day i would suggest that a man with suicidal tendencies should NOT have the correct certificates and legal bumpf. The chap in the N.E who committed those awful killings had his licence sent for review in 2010 after a police incident in which he threatened to kill himself. and look what happend.
As a Dr, Dr Scott I do not believe your comment.
Are you a medical Dr, and therefore has had to treat people as a result of gun culture.
With the exception of local farmers, please explain to me why anyone in Greenfield would need a gun.
Yours truly a resident of Greenfield.
