Mossley Comeback Stuns Clitheroe

Mossley scored four goals in the last quarter of the match to beat Clitheroe 4-2 at Seel Park yesterday. They had to come from 2-0 down as all six goals went in during the second half.

The visitors found the net twice in the first five minutes of the second period, with Nathan Taylor getting both. Mossley’s comeback began when Andy Russell scored after 65 minutes, and Chris McDonagh got the equaliser five minutes later.

The match looked to be […]

Councillors’ Fears Over Wall Repairs

Three Saddleworth members of Oldham Council are concerned about the possible impact of a project to repair walls around the area. Oldham Council is spending almost £20m of Government cash on the scheme, most of it in Saddleworth.

However, Councillors Buckley, Heffernan and Roughley have worries about the work, and you can read the full story at the Oldham Chronicle website here.

Blue Is The Colour

The new blue sign on the A635 above Greenfield

Visitors arriving in Saddleworth by road are being greeted by new signs. They’re in the new bright blue colours of Oldham Council, and replace the old white-and-black ones, some of which were more than 30 years old.

Similar signs are going up all across Oldham Borough, although the ones in Saddleworth mention the fact the area is “in the historic County of York.” […]

Cleared Councillor Quits Tories

An Oldham Borough councillor who was this week cleared of allegedly misusing council e-mail accounts, has resigned from the Conservative Party. Cllr Ian Barker will now represent Failsworth West as an Independent.

The police were called in last summer after a complaint about inappropriate e-mails which were allegedly sent using someone else’s name. Cllr Barker and his wife Jennifer, who was then working as a part-time researcher for the Conservative group on Oldham Council, were arrested and bailed. They […]

Council Tax Rise Of 1.9% For Saddleworth

Council tax bills in Saddleworth will go up by 1.9% from April, after Oldham Council formally approved its new budget last night. The increase was confirmed along with a series of cuts and other savings, so the council can fill an £11m gap in its plans for the 2010/11 financial year.

The decision means the annual bill for an average Band D property will be just over £1542. The 1.9% rise for Oldham is likely to be the second-lowest […]

Entries Required For Short Film Competition

The first Holmfirth Film Festival takes place in May, and aspiring film-makers have the chance to enter a short film competition. Organisers say they want “quirky and individual” films inspired by the people and places of the Holme Valley.

There are two categories, one for ten-minute films and the other for shorts of just 60 seconds, which you can even shoot using your mobile phone if you like. The contest is free to enter and the closing date is 23 […]

A Wet And Snowy Weekend

A snowy Wessenden Head Moor near Holmfirth viewed from the A635 yesterday. More snow is expected this weekend.

The cold, wet and snowy weather is expected to continue over the next few days, as we head towards March with not much sign of winter coming to an end.

Today is likely to see the best of the conditions with some sunshine and warmer temperatures of around 5C, although there will be showers […]

A wide variety of issues were raised at the meeting, including grumbles about disabled access, train size and frequency, car parking, cycle lockers, signage […]
