The orphanage at Kalofer. (all pictures: Charlene Bradford) A woman from Saddleworth has thanked local people for donating to her appeal to help children in Bulgarian orphanages. Charlene Bradford, who is originally from Diggle but now lives in Bulgaria, began the effort a year ago, and has already been able to get valuable supplies to the youngsters. Dobcross Square. Soon, those cars might not be allowed to park there. The idea of putting double yellow lines in Dobcross Square and at the top of Woods Lane has been put forward again. Uppermill Civic Hall Work to extend and improve Uppermill Civic Hall can’t start for the time being because of the Phil Woolas case. The verdict in the election court hearing is due to be delivered at the hall a week tomorrow, and it’s hoped the modernisation work will begin as soon as possible after that. Uppermill High Street Local business leaders are asking for the public’s help to put the Christmas cheer into Uppermill this year. Uppermill Band The brass bands of Uppermill and Marsden both enjoyed success last weekend at the Pontin’s Championships, held at the holiday camp at Prestatyn in north Wales. Uppermill won the Third Section, with the Marsden Silver Band claiming overall victory in the Harry and Margaret Mortimer Championship. Cllr Howard Sykes Seven senior Liberal Democrat politicians, including Oldham Council leader Howard Sykes, have been cleared over the alleged fast-tracking of planning approval for a new mosque in Glodwick. Cllr John Hudson A senior Saddleworth councillor has expressed hope for the future development of railways in our area, following talks with a government minister.
