Debbie comments on IDS resignation

Debbie Abrahams MP: "The Government is in melt down."

Debbie Abrahams MP: “The Government is in melt down.”

On hearing the news of his resignation Debbie Abrahams, MP for Oldham East and Saddleworth and Shadow Minister for Disabled People - who has had countless clashes with Mr Duncan Smith, both in the Work and Pensions Select Committee and across the Dispatch Box said: “This is a shambles. David Cameron has blamed Iain Duncan Smith and Iain Duncan Smith has said he doesn’t support his own policies!

“The Government is in melt down.

“It seems the Tories’ own backbench MPs now recognise that Labour’s long-held concerns about these cruel cuts to disabled people - over £24bn to date - have been well founded and that they are a step too far.

“Although it is positive that the Government’s proposed cuts to Personal Independence Payments are to be reassessed, as they would have been so damaging to the lives of hundreds of thousands of disabled people and their families, I wish Conservative MPs had voted against the £1500 per annum cut to ESA WRAG that they passed just 2 weeks ago.”

How many times I’ve read a piece in the local press in which Debbie Abrahams demands answers from this individual or that individual. Accusing them of stonewalling when they don’t respond to her requests. “Pot calling the kettle black”, springs to mind:
