Call-Outs For Mountain Rescue Team

The Oldham Mountain Rescue Team has been called out to help two injured people in Saddleworth over the past couple of days.

The rescuers, who are based at the Cross Keys above Uppermill, were asked to assist the North West Air Ambulance and the police.

In one incident, a cyclist suffered head injuries after coming off his bike at Blea Green, which is on the moors above the two Castleshaw reservoirs.

Mossley Youngster’s England Double

Teenage Mossley striker Fabio Abreu has made his mark on international duty.

Playing for England Under 18s against the Republic of Ireland in Dublin on Thursday night, he scored two goals and set up another in a 3-2 win.

Fabio, who recently scored on his debut for Mossley’s first team, got the winner against the Irish in the closing stages of the game, which took place at the Shamrock Rovers ground.

Saddleworth WI’s Royal Wedding Party

Guests watch the ceremony on a big screen.

Members of the Saddleworth Women’s Institute celebrated the wedding of William and Kate with a special fundraising party at Fresca restaurant in Delph.

A total of 140 guests turned up in their finery to enjoy not only the ceremony on big screens, but also a breakfast of bacon rolls and Bucks Fizz, and later a full buffet.

In Dobcross, everyone’s invited to a party at Holy Trinity School. It’s bring your own food and chairs, and the ceremony will be shown live on a big screen. The party starts at 10am and entry is £1 per person.

Dobcross Youth Band Members Raise Money For Cancer Charity

Hardworking fundraisers from the Dobcross Youth Band have brought in £850 for cancer charity CLIC Sargent. They raised the cash through a variety of events over the past 12 months including concerts, sponsored rehearsals and bake sales. They also took donations during carolling in the village on Christmas morning.

Austerlands Begin Cricket Season With Win

Austerlands got their Saddleworth League season off to a winning start last weekend, with an closely-fought victory over Heyside. After Heyside were dismissed for 139, Austerlands reached their target with just two wickets to spare, finishing on 143/8.

Uppermill Man’s Charity Challenge

Karl Jones will be getting on his bike tomorrow.

A charity fundraiser from Uppermill is taking part in a two-day adventure, to raise money for the Friends of Ghyll Head.

It’s a good cause which helps disadvantaged children from Manchester experience outdoor education in the Lakes.

And Karl Jones, along with three other self-described “fat fortysomethings” will be making an early start tomorrow morning on a trip which sounds like a lot of hard work.
