Vince Cable and Elwyn Watkins on Uppermill High Street today. Business Secretary Vince Cable was in Uppermill this afternoon, campaigning with Liberal Democrat by-election candidate Elwyn Watkins. A television producer who lives in Saddleworth has been awarded an MBE in the New Year’s Honours list. Keith Lucas has been recognised for his work with Oldham-based Street College, an organisation which helps underprivileged young people gain experience of working on media projects. The title goes to Gary Kershaw, who lives on Lower Fields near Nicker Brow. The result was revealed during the Christmas Day carol concert at Dobcross Band Club. Only a relatively small number of homes in Delph are still without water following yesterday’s burst pipe. According to United Utilities, supplies have now been restored to all addresses, except those on Millgate and Stoneswood Road. The cause of the problem was a burst water main on Millgate itself.
