Oldham Council is reminding residents there’s only one week left to enter the Bloom and Grow 2017 competitions.

There’s six competitions to enter: photography, private garden, young photographer, blooming business, blooming pub or blooming restaurant.

They are looking for the best photos of Oldham and the best looking gardens, businesses, pubs or restaurants – there’s a prize to be won for the winners of each category.

Marouf Ahmed has been sworn in as the Youth Mayor of Oldham.

Marouf, the eighth Youth Mayor of Oldham, lives in Coppice with his parents and siblings.

He went to school at Hathershaw College and went on to study at The Oldham Sixth Form College. He is currently a Mechanical Engineering student at the University of Liverpool.

A man has been jailed after a hit and run which killed two girls on New Year’s Eve in Oldham.

Gabor Hegedus of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to two counts of death by careless driving, conspiracy to pervert the course of justice and failing to stop after a collision.

Today he was jailed for four years and was disqualified from driving for five years at Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court.

Saddleworth Group of Artists Summer Exhibition now open

Well known local artists will again be exhibiting their work for the Saddleworth Group of Artists Summer Exhibition at the Saddleworth Museum.

The exhibition started at weekend and runs till Sunday 16 July.

Always a popular show, the exhibition will be comprised of up to fifty works, with styles ranging from photo realism to expressionistic. Most paintings will be on sale.

Oldham Council has been awarded Disability Employer Accreditation

Oldham Council has been awarded Disability Confident employer status.

The accreditation, which is run by the Government and is open to both public and private sector organisations, is designed to help positively change attitudes, behaviours and working culture to support the employment of people with disabilities.

Achieving the accreditation confirms that Oldham Council is proactive in recruiting and retaining disabled people and others with health conditions for their skills and talent.

A Saddleworth woman who has struggled with mental health issues for most of her life has recently published her first book to help and inspire others struggling with the same issues.

Greenfield Primary School Summer Fair

Greenfield Primary School will be holding its Summer Fair on Friday 30 June from 4pm - 7pm.

There will be plenty to see and do on the day including hot food, home baked food, licensed bar, mini arcade with X Box games, displays of martial arts and some adventure based learning activities.
