Saddleworth residents will be supported to return home from hospital quickly and safely, thanks to a new team of health, social care and third sector professionals.

The Oldham Rapid Community Assessment Team works closely with colleagues at The Royal Oldham Hospital, including those in the A&E department, to react quickly and prevent people from being admitted to hospital if they can be supported at home with the right professional help.

A couple of years ago Liberal Democrats Garth Harkness, Derek Heffernan and Alan Roughley launched a campaign to get a defibrillator in every village.

Network Rail says it has “made no decision yet” over possible plans to close a Saddleworth railway crossing.

Saddleworth Parish Council has recently written to Network Rail telling them they are completely opposed to any plans which would see the closure of Moorgate Halt railway crossing in Uppermill.

Man dies after being struck by train in Uppermill

Emergency services were called to the Moorgate Halt rail crossing in Uppermill this afternoon following reports that a man had been struck by a train.

British Transport Police, Greater Manchester Police and the ambulance service all attended the incident off Den Lane in the village at around 12.40pm today.

Sadly it was confirmed that a man had died at the scene.

Oldham Council has confirmed to Saddleworth News the final arrangements and running order for families attending ‘The Big Bang’ bonfire at Oldham Edge.

Residents are invited to enjoy an evening of free entertainment at the grassed site, just outside Oldham town centre on Thursday, November 3.

You are advised to wear appropriate footwear, wrap up warm, arrive early and use public transport, if possible, to avoid high demand on town centre car parks.
