Marsden named Yorkshire’s best festival

The Marsden Jazz Festival has been named Yorkshire’s best festival at a top awards ceremony.

The annual three-day live music event, which took place earlier this month, has won the ‘Outstanding Established Festival’ title at the Yorkshire Gig Guide Grassroots Awards 2015 in Whitby.

Flea market in Uppermill on Sunday

Uppermill Civic Hall

On Sunday 1 November 2015, from 10.00am to 3.15pm at the Civic Hall, Lee Street, Uppermill there will be a flea market.

The market is run by the Saddleworth Civic Trust and will have up to 40 stalls.

There will be refreshments all day. Entrance fee is fifty pence.

Attempted burglary in Dobcross overnight

Police say there was an attempted burglary on Wall Hill Road in Dobcross overnight.

The offenders attempted to gain access to a property by forcing a ground floor window.

If you were in the area and saw or heard anything suspicious please call the Police by ringing 101.

Police appeal after woman is raped in Mossley

Police are appealing for witnesses after a 36 year old woman was raped in Mossley. The attack is believed to have happened in the grounds of a derelict care home off Micklehurst Road, Mossley at some time before 10pm on Wednesday 21 October 2015.

Police hunting three men who robbed delivery driver at knifepoint in Dobcross

Police are hunting three men after a newspaper delivery driver was robbed at knifepoint in Dobcross.

The 33-year-old victim was unloading newspapers from his van at around 1.30am on Monday, close to Fold News, Woods Lane in the village.

As he carried newspapers to the shop three men approached his van and, while two acted as look-outs, a third man entered the vehicle and stole the victim’s mobile phone from the front seat.

Veteran Labour MP Michael Meacher has died, aged 75, after a short illness.

Mr Meacher was the MP for Oldham for 45 years and served for many years on the frontbench.

Colleagues have praised him as a “kind, courteous colleague” and a “great Labour man.”
