A Delph couple who stole over £45,000 from an elderly neighbour have been jailed.

Gary Stevenson and Carol Stevenson both of Denshaw Road, Delph, were sentenced yesterday at Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court after both pleading guilty at an earlier hearing. Carol Stevenson was sentenced to three years in custody for fraud and her husband Gary received a two year custodial sentence for money laundering.

Teenager Saskia Edwards Korolczuk has been sworn in as the new Youth Mayor of Oldham.

The 18-year-old officially took on the role at the Youth Mayor-making ceremony yesterday in the Council Chambers.

Saskia is from Springhead and is currently studying for her A-levels at Oldham Hulme Grammar School.

News that the electrification of the rail line through Saddleworth has been delayed indefinitely will mean further misery for local commuters who regularly use Greenfield and Mossley stations.

A boy was taken to hospital at the weekend after sustaining a suspected neck injury during a rugby match in Saddleworth.

The match was part of a number of rugby matches being played on Churchill Playing Fields in Greenfield.

The boy, who was injured during a tackle, was later was taken to hospital by land ambulance.

Saddleworth Parish Council Liberal Democrat group have announced the election of their new group leader, Alan Belmore, who was approved unanimously by the Lib Dem councillors.

Alan, 25, is an accountant living in Greenfield and is one of the youngest councillors in the country. He takes over from Bill Cullen, who has led the Lib Dem group since 2013.
