This year marks the centenary of the Allied landings on the Gallipoli peninsula.

Council encourages residents to celebrate St George’s Day

Oldham Council is encouraging residents to take part in this year’s St George’s Day celebrations.

Three days of events have been organised and they will begin with the raising of the St George’s Flag at the Civic Centre on Thursday, April 23.

Councillor Fida Hussain, the Mayor of Oldham will be joined by civic dignitaries and community representatives to hoist up the flag at 8.30am.

Police are becoming increasingly concerned for the welfare of a woman missing from her home in Saddleworth.

Marylyn Taylor, aged 60 went missing from her home on The Square in Dobcross and was last seen on 9 April 2015.

She is described as white, about 5ft 6in tall with greying hair and she has slow speech.

Firefighters are tackling a large moorland fire above Uppermill and Greenfield this afternoon.

The fire started at around 2.00pm and quickly spread across dry moorland from Greenfield towards Uppermill.

Twenty-five firefighters and five appliances are currently at the scene along with an incident command unit. They are being assisted by Oldham Mountain Rescue Team, the RSPB and the National Trust.

Police are appealing for the public’s help to find a missing Oldham teenager.

Toni Leigh Gibbins, 16, was last seen at about 10.50am on Sunday 5 April 2015.

She was at an address on Fraser Street in Shaw, Oldham, but has not been seen since.

When she was last seen, she was wearing a red vest-type top, a grey hooded top, black hotpants and leggings.
