Police investigating after burglars tried to break into a farm near Oldham have released a description of one of the offenders.

Police vehicles close Platting Road at Lydgate

Shots have been fired tonight after an attempted raid on a farm at Lydgate.

The incident started at around 8.00pm after a farmer fired warning shots into the air from a legally held firearm to scare raiders away.

Mother says daughter is ‘very lucky’ after riding accident

A local mother says her daughter is very lucky not to have been seriously injured after falling from her horse in Dobcross this morning.

The North West Air Ambulance was called to assist paramedics at the scene of the incident, near to Saddleworth Viaduct, at around 9.45am after the girl’s horse was frightened by a passing lorry.

A statement was given at tonight’s Full Oldham Council meeting about the tragic death of a local schoolgirl in Shaw.

Saddleworth News understands two girls have been in a serious collision in Shaw.

Shortly before 4.30pm on Tuesday 17 December 2013, police were called to Milnrow Road in Shaw following reports of a collision.

Officers attended and found that two girls had been in collision with a van. Emergency services are currently at the scene and a number of road closures are in place.

Residents in Saddleworth are being warned about conmen posing as police and bank officials over the phone.

There were five incidents across Oldham on Wednesday where victims were tricked into disclosing bank details and handing over cards, which resulted in money being stolen from their accounts.
