The Saddleworth Male Voice Choir will present their annual Concert of Remembrance at the Civic Hall, Uppermill on Saturday 9 November at 7.30pm.

Macmillan Coffee Morning at The Swan in Dobcross

The Swan in Dobcross will be holding a fundraising coffee morning as part of Macmillan cancer charity’s “world’s biggest coffee morning”.

Lorna Hill’s fundraising coffee morning as part of Macmillan cancer charity’s “world’s biggest coffee morning” will be held this Saturday (28th Sept) from 10am until noon.

Admission is £2 (includes tea/coffee and a scone).

Uppermill Methodist Centre coffee morning in October

Uppermill Methodist Centre will be holding a coffee morning on 9 October from 10am – 12 noon in aid of Christian Aid.

Residents warned after large rise in computer scams in the area

Saddleworth residents are being warned about a large rise in computer scams in the area with one particular virus locking computers and demanding an online payment to unlock them.

The virus known as the ‘Cheshire Police Virus’ has affected a lot of computers in the area in recent weeks after surfers visited a number of compromised websites.

Saddleworth Women’s Institute forthcoming events

Saddleworth Women’s Institute had a great weekend at the recent Saddleworth Show with fantastic weather and lots of homemade cakes donated by their lovely WI ladies.

They raised £200 from the cake sale and a tombola, all of which will be donated to their charity for 2013, Oldham Bereavement Support Service.

Chief Executive Charlie Parker to leave Oldham Council

Charlie Parker is set to leave his post as Chief Executive of Oldham Council to take up one of the top jobs in Local Government.

The 52-year-old has today been recommended for appointment to the post of Chief Executive at Westminster City Council.

The recommendation will go before a Full Council meeting at Westminster on September 26 and, subject to approval, he would replace Mike More, who is stepping down at the end of 2013.

Dobcross Youth Band keeps on hitting the high notes

Dobcross Youth Band is calling on local families to help keep Saddleworth’s brass banding traditions alive. The band is hosting a recruitment evening for children on Wednesday 25 September, from 6.30pm to 7.30pm, at Dobcross Band Club on Platt Lane.
