Delph Primary School to fund new crossing patrol next term

Greenfield schools lost their patrols.

School crossing patrols will continue at the majority of Oldham schools next term – with seven also taking up the service for the very first time.

In Saddleworth, Delph Primary School will be funding a new school crossing patrol as Greenfield Primary school and St Mary’s Primary School in Greenfield have lost their patrols.

A lorry has crashed this afternoon on Saddleworth Moor above Greenfield.

The accident happened at around 3.30pm as the lorry was travelling from Holmfirth towards Greenfield on the A635.

Jack hoping to pile on the pounds for charity

Eleven-year-old Jack Ireland will be pedalling for pounds when he rides his bike all the way from his home in Denshaw to Blackpool.

The Delph School pupil is taking on the challenge to raise money for his two favourite charities – the MS Society and Francis House Children’s Hospice.

The route he will be taking is nearly 60 miles, across Lancashire and finishing at Blackpool Tower.

Car stuck on tram lines again at Oldham Mumps tonight

A car has ended up stuck on tram lines near Oldham Mumps again tonight halting services in both directions.

The incident happened at around 8.30pm when the driver mistook the line towards Rochdale as part of the road. It is thought to be the fourth time a car has driven onto the tram lines at the same spot in recent months.

Uppermill Methodist Church celebrations

Uppermill Methodist Church are hosting a variety of events for parishioners and the community alike to celebrate their joint centenary and bi-centenary celebrations.

The first one is ‘Songs of Praise’ - Introduced by Marjorie Lofthouse, on Sunday 24th March at 18:30pm, this includes Refreshments.

The second one is ‘An evening with John Wesley’ - Mark Topping as John Wesley.

The Giddy Gringos present their second annual evening of Latin/Salsa music and dancing

Fires on moorland above Greenfield tonight

A large grass fire has been burning on moorland above Dovestone in Greenfield for the last few hours.

There are also three smaller blazes on the surrounding moorland.

The fire is still continuing to burn but Greater Manchester Fire & Rescue Service have told Saddleworth News they are aware of the fire.

Local runners raise money for the Stroke Association
