Saddleworth High Street business, Optifit, are hoping to help the 80 per cent of women who wear the wrong size bra.

Local resident, Sue McDonald, who regularly advises pregnant, breastfeeding, physiotherapy and post-mastectomy patients, has joined forces with top consultant plastic surgeon Atul Khanna to warn that conventional bras – historically based on men’s WWI uniforms measurements – compress and distort the breast into an unnatural position, which could be at the root of many health problems.

Saddleworth residents warned over personal injury claims

Dramatic changes by the present Government to legal costs rules in personal injury cases will come into play from 1st April. The new rules will mean that awards made in successful cases will be managed completely differently and will affect both solicitors and their clients.

A Saddleworth mother took part in an event in Manchester last Friday aimed at making world hunger a thing of the past.

Felix held by Nancy Gartside from Altrincham.

Rebecca Gowland, took her two children Felix and Dorothy along to the demo in Manchester City centre organised by Oxfam to highlight worldwide hunger.

Footballer’s car stolen from outside his Saddleworth home

Police have confirmed that Manchester United star Paul Scholes has had his top-of-the-range 4×4 stolen as he defrosted the windscreen at his home in Saddleworth.

The footballer left the engine running to melt ice on his grey Chevrolet Captiva Estate while it was parked on his driveway and then popped back inside his home in Saddleworth. When he returned, the car had been stolen.

The theft happened yesterday morning shortly before 8am.

Latics asking for help with snow clearing before Liverpool game

Gritting at Latics.

Latics are asking fans to help with snow-clearing operations at Boundary Park before Sunday’s FA Cup with Budweiser, fourth-round tie against Liverpool.

The pitch covered in snow.

They are needed from 8am tomorrow (Saturday) to remove snow from both inside Boundary Park and also the approaches to the ground.

And with another snowfall forecast for later today and overnight, there is a possibility that a large-scale operation may be needed.

Saddleworth represented at Butlins National Brass Band Championships

Last weekend saw the Annual Butlins National Brass Band Championships at Skegness.

Saddleworth was represented by 4 bands, Uppermill in the 1st Section, Mossley Band in the 2nd Section, Boarshurst Silver Band in the 3rd and Greenfield Band in the 4th Section.

Uppermill finished in 6th place with Greenfield Band finishing 8th in their section.

But the spoils of Victory came to both Mossley and Boarshurst with Mossley winning the 2nd Section for the 3rd time in succession.

Council Tax increase being proposed by Oldham Council

Oldham Council is set to consider proposals to increase Council Tax by 3.5 per cent from April 1 this year.

The Local Authority must deliver a balanced budget for 2013/4 and – in total – needs to find an estimated £38 million in savings by 2015.

Major reductions in funding from Central Government and the impact of other pressures mean savings totalling £100 million have already been made in the past four years.

The Holmfirth Road (A635) has now been reopened.

It was closed yesterday morning because of the snow and icy conditions.

Ooops! Lining contractors paint wrong speed limit on road

Lining contractors were quick to remove a new speed limit sign they had just painted on Oldham Road in Grasscroft last week.

The 30mph roundel sign was painted on Oldham Road heading towards Mossley, but the speed limit along that stretch is 40mph, the contractors removed the sign from the road the next day.

Angry bus passengers left to walk to Dobcross after driver decides not to complete his journey

Locals claim the buses to Dobcross are not reliable.

A number of people have complained to Saddleworth News after they were forced to walk from Uppermill to Dobcross yesterday as the driver of the 353 bus service ended his journey prematurely.

The bus from Greenfield was scheduled to arrive in Dobcross just after half past two, but after losing time in road works in Uppermill the driver decided to miss out Dobcross altogether.
