A number of residents in the Saddleworth area have this week received telephone calls from a company claiming to be working with Microsoft, and offering to talk them through installing computer ‘updates’ from Microsoft. These calls originate in India and are a scam. They actually install a software bug that collects passwords used on various websites including online banking. Saddleworth Spiritualist Church is holding its annual candle service this Saturday. The service includes medium, John Harrop, with carols and music played by Bob Wilcox. There is a £5.00 donation on the door and this includes a buffet and refreshments. The service starts at 7.30pm and doors open at 6.45pm. The church is situated at 161, High Street, Uppermill (opposite Saddleworth School drive). All are welcome.

Oldham Council has successfully prosecuted a taxi driver who was spotted smoking in his cab – and then throwing the cigarette butt out of the window.
