Motorists lucky escape after driving along new tram lines in Oldham

A motorist had a lucky escape tonight after driving his car along the tram lines at Mumps in Oldham.

It is though the driver had mistaken the section of line, which runs from Oldham to Rochdale, as Brook Street, a side road that leads up to Shaw Road.

Saddleworth residents warned over telephone scam

A number of residents in the Saddleworth area have this week received telephone calls from a company claiming to be working with Microsoft, and offering to talk them through installing computer ‘updates’ from Microsoft. These calls originate in India and are a scam. They actually install a software bug that collects passwords used on various websites including online banking.

Candle service this Saturday at Saddleworth Spiritualist Church

Saddleworth Spiritualist Church is holding its annual candle service this Saturday.

The service includes medium, John Harrop, with carols and music played by Bob Wilcox.

There is a £5.00 donation on the door and this includes a buffet and refreshments.

The service starts at 7.30pm and doors open at 6.45pm.

The church is situated at 161, High Street, Uppermill (opposite Saddleworth School drive).

A Greenfield man has written a thought-provoking book on meditation entitled ‘52 Reflections of Gold’ to help readers through the emotions and events of everyday life.

Family pay tribute to man killed in Lydgate collision

The family of a man who died following a collision on a country road in Oldham have today, Sunday 9 December 2012, paid tribute to him.

At about 4.40pm on Friday, 7 December 2012, the man, now identified as Anthony Rowland Hill, 69, from Greenfield, was walking with friends along Platting Road when he was in collision with a Nissan X Trail being driven by a woman.

A man has died following a collision on a country road in Lydgate.

Smoking taxi driver prosecuted by Oldham Council

Oldham Council has successfully prosecuted a taxi driver who was spotted smoking in his cab – and then throwing the cigarette butt out of the window.

On July 5 this year two Environmental Enforcement Officers were driving along Henshaw Street, Oldham when they saw Jonathan Cuggy parked up in his Toyota Avensis smoking.

Christmas lights competition date announced

Saddleworth Parish Council have announced the date for the judging of the Christmas Lights competition as Thursday the 13th of December.

Each year a group of Councillors travel around the district to look at entries in four different categories, The best lit pub, the best decorated shop window, the best illuminated shop window and the best lit house.
