ASBOs are usually used when somebody has persistently behaved in a way that causes people harassment, alarm or distress.

Local man Stuart Littleford, claims he was threatened with an ASBO by an Oldham Council official who believed he may have been recording their telephone conversation.

Fighting against regional giants the Manchester Evening News and the Liverpool Echo, the Saddleworth Independent was a runner-up in this year’s North West O2 Media Awards.

Discarded cigarette butt proves costly

Oldham Council has successfully prosecuted a Sholver woman who failed to pick up a cigarette butt she had discarded.

On June 15 an Environmental Health Enforcement Officer observed Lynette Shaw dropping the litter in Oldham Town Centre.

The 35-year-old was issued with an £80 Fixed Penalty Notice (FPN) for littering. This would have been reduced to £50 if paid within 10 days.

This Sunday, 25 October 2012, sees a team of former Manchester City FC stars take on a Greater Manchester Police team in a charity football match in honour of PC Nicola Hughes and PC Fiona Bone in Hyde, Tameside.

Uppermill residents show true community spirit in removing a fallen tree

Residents in Uppermill got together the other night to show true community spirit by helping to remove a large fallen tree on Ryefields Drive in the village.

The tree was toppled on Thurdsay night in the strong winds and heavy rain, it completely blocked the road to traffic and even pedestrians found it hard to get past.

Grotton family left devastated after a camera containing priceless pictures of their dead son is stolen in burglary

A camera containing pictures of a beloved son who recently died was stolen during a burglary in Oldham.

Sometime between 8.30am and 12.30pm on Friday 23 November 2012, a house on Thornley Park Road, Grotton was broken onto.

The offenders searched the home and stole jewellery including watches, earrings and bracelets, money and a camera.

The Fuji camera had pictures of the victim’s 23-year-old son who had tragically died.

Saddleworth’s missing Rebecca found safe and well

Rebecca Laithwaite now safe at home.

Saddleworth News has just had it confirmed in the last half hour, that the missing 13-year-old girl, Rebecca Louise Laithwaite, has been found safe and well.

A senior GMP detective told editor Stuart Littleford, that Rebecca had now been reunited with her father and is back at home in Diggle.

Saddleworth Rangers, Under 18’s are raising funds for a Tour to Australia next July.

Man stabbed to death in Oldham

A man has been stabbed to death in Oldham early this morning.

Shortly after 12.15am this morning, Monday 19 November 2012, police received a call from the ambulance service stating a 48-year-old man had been stabbed at a house on Coleridge Road.

Emergency services attended the scene and found a man with serious stab wounds to his chest. He was pronounced dead at the scene shortly afterwards.
