Defend your Defender!

Saddleworth News has been informed of a number of attempted thefts of Land Rover Defenders in the area.

In Uppermill last week thieves attempted to steal a Defender but were thwarted by the vehicles security features.

A farm in Greenfield was also targeted on Sunday night and two new farm quad bikes were stolen and thieves also attempted to steal a John Deere tractor.

Diggle remembrance service today for murdered policewoman Nicola Hughes

There will be a remembrance service today for murdered policewoman Nicola Hughes at Kiln Green Church, Diggle at 9.30am.

The Rev Duncan Rhodes said: “The church will be open from 1-5pm on each of the coming Sundays, September 23 and 30.”

A book of condolence will also be put on display for the public to sign.

13 year old boy raped in shopping centre toilets

A 31-year-old man has been charged following the rape of a teenage boy in Oldham.

Matt Leigh Tyler, born 19/6/81, of Parkway, Chadderton, was charged with two offences of rape and was due to appear at Oldham magistrates court this morning, Thursday 20 September 2012.

At about 4.35pm on Monday 17 September 2012, police in Oldham were called to the toilets in the Spindles Shopping Centre to a report that a 13-year-old boy had been raped.

Tributes continue to pour in for the two police officers killed in a gun and grenade attack whilst investigating reports of a burglary at Abbey Gardens in Hattersley, Tameside on Tuesday.
