Saddleworth Women’s Institute is presenting an alternative way to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee in the form of a Queen tribute band.

The show features the music of the band through Queen Alive. This will take place at Uppermill Civic Hall on the 3rd June.

Doors open at 8pm with all proceeds going to three local charities.

The top brass band in the country is looking for more success at the Saddleworth Whit Friday contests.

Current national champions Brighouse and Rastrick will once again be touring the villages of our area during this Friday’s event.

Last year they won the contests at Delph, Denshaw, Dobcross, Greenfield and Grotton to take the overall Saddleworth prize, and the band’s president has told Saddleworth News they’re hoping for another strong performance.

On Saturday Delph lost their 4th league match in a row, in yet another nail-biter, which went down to the final over. Winning the toss and batting, Delph were soon in trouble, losing openers Irfan Zahoor (10), Bruce Cruse (19) and overseas player Kevin Hook (8), to leave them struggling at 3 for 40. Road users in Dobcross are being warned to take extra care when using Platt Lane due to three large potholes that have appeared as they could cause damage to cars and pose an accident risk to cyclists and motorcycle riders.

Increase in daytime burglaries due to warm weather

Police are warning residents in the Springhead and Lees areas to take extra care after an increase in daytime house burglaries due to the warm weather.

People should not leave doors and windows open if they go out or are away from their property for any period of time. They should report any suspicious behaviour to the police and keep an eye on neighbours property if possible.

Patriotic costumes and decorations will need to be dusted off ready for a day of celebration to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee on Sunday, June 3rd 2012.

Denshaw farm missing three dogs

The owners of a Denshaw farm are appealing to people who can help find their three dogs that have gone missing.

Three of their four dogs have been missing since the afternoon of Tuesday 15th May 2012, they were last seen on the farm.

Greenfield man inspired to run for Cancer Research

Inspired by two people he follows on Twitter a Greenfield man will be running in the BUPA Great Manchester Run on the 20th May in aid of Cancer Research.

Man seen trying house doors in Grasscroft

Residents in Grasscroft are being asked to report anything suspicious after a man has been spotted trying door handles in the Summershades Lane area of the village.

In the last few minutes a Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: “A white man aged around 30-40 years old has been seen trying the handle of a rear door on Summershades Lane, Grasscroft.”

Police are attending the area and are asking people to report anything suspicious.
