Wartime Weekend Back On

Saddleworth’s Wartime Weekend is back on, albeit under a new name and without some of the attractions originally planned. The new show will be called The Yanks Are Back In Saddleworth, and will take place on 13, 14 and 15 August, the same dates as the initial event.

The Wartime Weekend was called off last week after organisers were denied permission to use Churchill Fields. Last year, heavy wartime vehicles and equipment used during the event were blamed for putting the fields into a poor state. Oldham Council has said it wants extensive work to improve drainage at the site to begin later this year, which meant staging the Wartime Weekend there was out of the question.

However, the Oldham Chronicle today reports that organisers have decided to go ahead with a more limited programme of events. You can read more details here.

The festival, which has already been running for nine years, was inspired in part by the filming of the movie Yanks in Dobcross.
