Rishworth School BBC News School Report gives 11-16 year-old students in the UK the chance to make their own news reports for a real audience

On March 16 2017, Rishworth School took part in the annual BBC News School Report Day, creating text-based news reports, and publishing them on the school website, to which the BBC will link.

Using lesson plans and materials from its website, and with help from BBC staff and partners, teachers supported students aged 13 and 14, including many from Saddleworth, to become ‘news-hounds’ for the day and so develop their journalistic skills.

A number of students living in Saddleworth and who attended Rishworth School in the last academic year, have achieved some outstanding results in the recent round of public examinations this year. Results for the School at both GCSE and A Level have been extremely good indeed.

Large increase in burglaries in the Saddleworth area

Police say there has been a large increase in burglaries in the Saddleworth over the last few weeks and that extra resources have now been deployed to the area.

Last night there was an attempted burglary at a house on Whitehead Close in Greenfield and last week three houses in Delph were also broken into.

A kazoo chorus is coming to Marsden

Young people and families taking part in Marsden Jazz Festival Street Music Parade 2014 – photo Elizabeth Baker.

Marsden will soon be buzzing with the sound of kazoos with four kazoo workshops taking place in the village over the next two weekends.

ANPR cameras to be deployed around Saddleworth in bid to cut crime

Saddleworth and Lees District Executive is doing its bit to tackle crime in the area.

Last year councillors sitting on the DE allocated £10,000 of funding towards the purchase of two mobile Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras.

The devices – operated by Greater Manchester Police officers – will now be deployed on main roads around the district.

The new cameras will record the registration numbers of vehicles using the area’s roads.
