An amber weather warning has been issued for the region between 00.05 and 06.00 tomorrow morning ( Wed 13). Storm Aileen will bring a brief spell of very strong winds with gusts up to 65-75 mph during the early hours of the morning. Thanks to @ChadWeather for the updates.

Heavy rain has caused serious flooding in some parts of Saddleworth today with water levels in the River Tame rising to their highest in recent memory.

In Uppermill, the village park and children’s play area was submerged beneath two feet of water with a number of homes on School Street, off the High Street badly flooded.

Heavy snow storms or “thundersnow storms” as they have been called by the Met Office caused problems around some parts of Saddleworth today.

Winds of up to 100mph brought chaos to Saddleworth yesterday with numerous weather related incidents reported throughout the afternoon and night. The Met Office issued a rare Red Weather Warning covering parts of Wales and the North West.

Red Weather Warning issued for later today

The Met Office has issued a Red Weather Warning which it has described as a “hurricane warning” for the North West of England.

Residents are advised to take extra precautions this afternoon and tonight to prevent damage to life and property, the Met Office says there is a serious risk to both and trees could be felled along with power lines.

Uppermill is quite busy today and traffic seems to be flowing fine, the nice warm weather has brought the crowds out.

Snow Preparation Ahead Of Winter Weather Warnings

Oldham Council says it is prepared for the expected winter disruption this year, as forecasters predict the first serious snow of the season could be heading our way.

Some parts of our area had a dusting of snow on Tuesday, but the Met Office has issued a severe weather warning of high winds and snow, with the worst of the conditions expected on Thursday night into Friday.

More Rain Around This Week

The weather’s showing little sign of improvement, with another few days of overcast and wet conditions forecast.

Today will be largely dry, although there’s a good chance of showers appearing, with those likely to become more regular as the day goes on. Highs of 18C.

The wind should pick up a bit during the night and into Tuesday, which will be showery once again with top temperatures also at or around 18C.

More Showers On The Way This Week

The mixture of clearer spells and showers we had over the weekend will be largely repeated over the next few days, albeit with the rain becoming more regular as the week goes on.

Today’s forecast is actually for the best day of the week, with mostly dry if cloudy conditions, and highs of 21C.

The rain returns in earnest on Tuesday though, and although Wednesday and Thursday are likely to be a little better, there’ll still be regular showers around.
