Culture Secretary Jeremy Hunt has revealed a list of 65 towns and cities across the UK which could get new local TV services in the coming years. Manchester is among them, and the proposed new Manchester service would cover and be available in Oldham, and presumably therefore also in Saddleworth.

Here’s the July bulletin from Saddleworth News TV. This month’s programme features interviews with senior figures from Oldham Council and Transport for Greater Manchester about the progress of Metrolink and the accompanying disruption at Mumps. There’s also an update on the Uppermill gas main roadworks, and we hear from local youth workers about what’s on offer for Saddleworth’s youngsters during the summer holidays.

Top Officials Give Oldham Metrolink Update

Senior figures from Transport for Greater Manchester and Oldham Council have been briefing the media today about the Metrolink works currently taking place in Oldham.

The roadworks at and around Mumps Roundabout have led to traffic congestion, adding to the frustration of Saddleworth drivers and commuters already affected by other roadworks to do with retaining wall repairs and road resurfacing.

Lees Student Wins Business Award

A college student from Lees has won a top award for up-and-coming entrepreneurs.

Danny Callan, who’s 18 and goes to The Oldham College, won the student award at the Pro Manchester Professional Innovator Challenge 2011.

He had to carry out a series of business challenges to get through to the final, testing qualities such as imagination, creativity, problem solving and taking the initiative.
