In Feb 2015 and then again in Aug 2017 Saddleworth News polled its readers asking where they would prefer the new Saddleworth School to be built. Saddleworth School is the local mixed-sex secondary school educating children of 11 to 16 years of age. It is presently located in Uppermill, Saddleworth.

The poll was conducted purely out of interest. The school awaits being built.

A 14-year-old Saddleworth schoolboy has joined his father’s cycling club in a bid to raise money for a close family friend who needs cancer treatment that is unavailable on the NHS.

Tom Doyle, from Greenfield, who attends Saddleworth School, has started cycling with father Chris as part of his Duke of Edinburgh bronze award which requires him to do some physical activity with a club.

Oldham Council’s Planning Committee will meet to reconsider all four applications relating to the proposed new Saddleworth School this month.

An ‘extraordinary’ meeting will consider only these matters in the Council Chambers on Wednesday, April 13 at 6pm.

Special meeting to consider Saddleworth School planning applications

Oldham Council’s Planning Committee is set to consider all four applications relating to the proposed new Saddleworth School at a special meeting next month.

This so-called ‘extraordinary’ meeting will consider only these matters and will take place in the Council Chambers on Thursday, February 25 at 6pm.

Three separate and one revised planning applications were all submitted in week commencing December 21 – triggering a statutory 21-day public consultation that ended on January 13.

Drop-in event for proposed highways scheme at new Saddleworth School

Oldham Council is holding a drop-in event where people can view the proposed highways scheme for the new Saddleworth School.

The event will take place at Kiln Green Church, Diggle, on Thursday, December 10.

Residents can call in at any time between 3pm and 7.30pm and officers will be on hand to explain the scheme and answer any questions.

The public will then get the opportunity to make any comments during the statutory 21-day planning consultation period.

First images of new Saddleworth School released

Construction company Interserve, the main contractor for building the new Saddleworth School, has now published images showing the design and layout of the school and grounds on their website.

The development site for the proposed new Saddleworth School is located in Diggle, and comprises the former Dobcross Loom Works/WH Shaw Pallet’s Site, off Huddersfield Road which are now vacant. The remaining part of the site comprises green field grazing land.
