Moors Murderer Ian Brady who killed five children in the 1960s has died, Ashworth Hospital has confirmed tonight.

Brady had been receiving palliative care at the secure mental hospital where he was being detained in Merseyside.

Part of Saddleworth moor after conservation works to protect bare peat

The Moors for the Future Partnership, which works to protect priority international habitats in the Peak District and South Pennines, has received 16 million euros to deliver the MoorLIFE 2020 project.

This includes €12 million from the EU’s LIFE fund – which supports environmental, nature conservation and climate action projects throughout Europe – the largest award ever given to a UK-based project.

A reward has been offered for any information on the dogs whereabouts.

The adult male Akita was last seen near junction 22 towards Denshaw.

Aircraft in ‘near miss’ over Saddleworth Moor

A jet fighter has been photographed over Saddleworth Moor, Denshaw, this afternoon, in what appears to have been a near miss with a helicopter.

Saddleworth Moors Thirteen Mile High Walk

The Countryside service for Oldham Council have organised a walk of approximetley 13 miles.

The walk which will take place this Sunday, will take in the Saddleworth Moors as well as give walkers the chance to look for white mountain hares.

All participants must be experienced and confident walkers, as the event is said to be the hardest the Countryside Service has planned.

Crash On A635 Isle Of Skye Road

Two vehicles were involved in an accident on the A635 Isle of Skye Road on Wednesday afternoon.

Police were called to the incident between Greenfield and Holmfirth shortly after 4:30pm, and found a red Ford Mondeo and a Jeep Commander partly blocking the road after a collision.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesman said there were no reports of any injuries, but there was some debris spread around the carriageway. Officers from West Yorkshire Police assisted GMP at the scene.

Police Break Up Huge Party On Saddleworth Moor

Dozens of youths were involved in a party on Saddleworth Moor in the early hours of yesterday, which had to be broken up by the police.

Officers were called to the scene on the A635 Greenfield to Holmfirth road at 12:45am, following complaints of noise including loud music.

New Search For Keith Bennett Planned

A renewed effort to find the body of Moors Murders victim Keith Bennett will begin on Saddleworth Moor next month.

The announcement has been made as Keith’s mum, Winnie Johnson, has revealed that she is suffering from cancer. She has also sent a personal DVD appeal to killer Ian Brady, in the hope he might at last confirm the location of Keith’s body.

Fire On The Moors Near Greenfield

One of the biggest moorland fires in Saddleworth so far this year broke out near Greenfield yesterday afternoon.

The blaze was captured in this picture by Rachael Smart, who took it from near the Tanners millpond and posted the image on Twitter.

She described the flames as “huge” and said the photo didn’t do the scene justice.

Car Crashes On Isle Of Skye Road

A car crashed on the A635 Isle of Skye road this afternoon. The red Nissan left the road between Greenfield and Holmfirth shortly before 2pm, ending up in a ditch on Saddleworth Moor.

Walker Dies Near Dove Stone

A man collapsed and died yesterday afternoon while walking on Saddleworth Moor. The walker, who was in his 60s, sadly couldn’t be revived and was confirmed as having died at the scene.

Ten members of the Uppermill-based Oldham Mountain Rescue Team helped lead police to the dead man. Four of their colleagues from the Holme Valley Mountain Rescue Team also joined the operation, which took about two hours.
