Roger gets Oldham Council Civic Appreciation Award

Award – Roger Tanner MBE

Roger Tanner MBE DL has become the latest recipient of Oldham Council Civic Appreciation Award thanks to his contribution to community life over many years.

Mr Tanner received the award at a special ceremony at Oldham Civic Centre last night.

Roger, 92, was born in Greenfield. He was the youngest son of Tanners of Greenfield, a large mill-owning family.

Exhibition Of Art And Textiles At Heights Church

An exhibition of art and textiles is taking place this week at St Thomas’ Church at Heights above Delph.

The event, running as part of the Saddleworth Festival of the Arts, is open daily until Sunday between 10am and 4pm.

Organisers say examples of quilts, lacemaking, paintings and ceramics are all on display, along with some artwork by Delph School pupils.

The service of Les Barrow, a member of the Saddleworth Group of Artists for more than six decades, has been recognised with a special presentation.

Pictures From Saddleworth Players’ Under Milk Wood

The latest production from the Saddleworth Players, a staging of the Dylan Thomas play Under Milk Wood, is currently running at the Millgate Centre in Delph.

It’s on every evening until Saturday, when the final show coincides with the opening night of the Saddleworth Festival of the Arts. Doors open at 7pm with performances starting at 7:30pm, and tickets cost £7.50. The booking phone line is 01457 874644.

Dobcross Youth Band To Hold Film Music Night

The Dobcross Youth Band pictured on Whit Friday last year.

The Saddleworth Festival of the Arts begins this Saturday, and one of the highlights of the opening night will be a concert of film music by the Dobcross Youth Band.

Peace Exhibition In Uppermill

An exhibition being held by the Saddleworth Peace Movement begins at the museum in Uppermill on Thursday. Titled ‘A Non-Violent Response To Terrorism?’ the exhibition will be held until 12 June in the museum’s art gallery.

The Frolick To Bring Baroque To Saddleworth Festival

Award-winning baroque group The Frolick will be treating Saddleworth to a taste of 18th Century London during the Festival of the Arts, which begins in just over a week.

The Woodend Artists Group has announced details of a fringe event to take place during the Saddleworth Festival of the Arts next month.

Diggle artist John Hewitt is among eight people exhibiting their work at the Millyard Gallery in Uppermill from this Saturday.
