Denshaw village switched on its Christmas lights last night with a good-sized crowd gathered on Huddersfield Road to watch the event.

The event was organised by Paula Parlsow and Denshaw Village Community Association, with support from the Rotary Club of Saddleworth and other local organisations.

The Saddleworth Show of 2014 is taking place this weekend.

The Rotary Clubs of Saddleworth and Oldham Metro, who organise the event, hope that the World Cup theme will help build on the success and enjoyment of the 2013 show, which in turn will help them raise much needed funds for local charities.

Rotary Club Jazz Night at the Civic Hall

The Rotary Club of Saddleworth is holding a Jazz Night, featuring The Savannah Jazz Band and The Dobcross Whistler, Dave Morris, on Saturday 28 April, 7.30pm, at the Civic Hall, Uppermill.

The Savannah Jazz Band was formed by Tony Smith, who is well known locally. The event is to raise funds for Polio Plus, a Rotary International project which aims to eliminate polio throughout the world.

This project is now within sight of its triumphant conclusion.

The Saddleworth Summer Show takes place at Churchill Fields this coming Sunday, 12 June, and organisers are hoping for good weather for what is one of the highlights of the year in our area.

Chairman of this year’s organising committee, David Wright, said: “Preparations have gone very well indeed. Virtually everything is in place, it’s just a case of dotting the Is and crossing the Ts.”
