Emmaus to celebrate its 20yrs in Mossley

Homelessness charity Emmaus Mossley will hold a day-long community event next weekend to celebrate its twentieth anniversary.

The ‘20th Birthday Bash’ will take place on Saturday 16 September and mark 20 years since the opening of the Emmaus Mossley community building at Longlands Mill. Over the years the community has grown and it is now home to 26 companions – formerly homeless people who live and work at Emmaus Mossley.

Mossley man Gary completes mental health course

A community member from homelessness charity Emmaus Mossley has completed a mental health training course run by Tameside, Oldham and Glossop (TOG) Mind Mossley resident, Gary Barton, completed the 10-week City & Guilds Level 2 Certificate in Community Mental Health course and has recently been presented with his certificates. Gary lives and works at the charity Emmaus Mossley and is keen to use his lived experience of homelessness to support others.

Volunteers at homelessness charity Emmaus Mossley have been thanked for their vital contribution at a special event to mark national Volunteers’ Week 2017.

The Volunteers’ Afternoon Tea event on Friday 2 June included afternoon tea, certificate presentations and a chance for volunteers to socialise and meet each other. Running between 1-7 June, Volunteers’ Week celebrates the contribution made by the millions of volunteers across the UK.

Helicopter used to bring moors blaze under control

A helicopter was used by firefighters yesterday afternoon to help bring a large moors blaze under control in Saddleworth.

The fire on moors above Dovestone Reservoir in Greenfield was difficult to access for the fire service.

At around 4pm fire engines from Oldham, Chadderton, Stalybridge and Mossley along with a wildfire unit from Stalybridge and a command unit from Hyde attended the blaze.

Events in February for both the Saddleworth Historical Society and Saddleworth Civic Trust

Saddleworth Historical Society has an Illustrated Presentation entitled ‘Saddleworth’s Lost Servicemen of World War’ by Ivan Foster, historian.

This takes place on Wednesday 8 February at 7.30pm at the Saddleworth Museum, High Street, Uppermill. All are welcome but there is a charge of £3 for non-members on the night. Refreshments will be available.

Guided ‘remembrance tour’ of Mossley Cemetery

Exactly one week before Remembrance Day there will be an organised tour of Mossley Cemetery by Mossley Civic Society to view some of the graves that have a military connection.

A pair of formerly homeless people from Emmaus Mossley have completed cycle maintenance training to boost their skills and CV.

Paul and Stuart – formerly homeless people who now live and work at Emmaus Mossley – completed the Velotech Bronze award training course delivered by Ayudante Bicycles. The two-day course covered different aspects of cycle maintenance and repair including gears, brakes and rebuilding bikes from scratch.

Five injured after car crash on Holmfirth Road

Emergency services attend to the injured after the head-on crash

Five people have been injured after two cars collided on the A635, Holmfirth Road, at Greenfield this afternoon.

Emergency services were called to the accident at around 5.30pm, after reports of a head-on crash involving two vehicles.

Three men in one of the vehicles, a Vauxhall Astra, were taken to hospital.

Communities are set to benefit from stronger neighbourhood policing as Greater Manchester Police and Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue come together under one roof.

Police appeal after woman is raped in Mossley

Police are appealing for witnesses after a 36 year old woman was raped in Mossley. The attack is believed to have happened in the grounds of a derelict care home off Micklehurst Road, Mossley at some time before 10pm on Wednesday 21 October 2015.

Community cinema in Mossley one step closer thanks to amazing eBay find

Regular cinema screenings in Mossley are one step closer as new community arts centre The Vale takes delivery of some theatre-style seating.

The 60 red velvet seats have recently been removed from The Muni theatre in Colne, as part of a £56,000 refurbishment project.
