Popular TV presenter and journalist, John Stapleton, has told Saddleworth News he hopes “funding can be found” to restore a clock on one of Saddleworth’s most iconic buildings.

The clock, on the front of the Civic Hall in Uppermill, was recently repaired but the clock face itself and the surrounding structure couldn’t be refurbished due to a lack of budget.

Great Britain Rugby League Captain and Leeds Rhino’s star Kevin Sinfield paid a visit to Delph on Tuesday to meet with Bryn Hughes, father of PC Nicola Hughes, to pledge his support for the PC Nicola Hughes Memorial Fund.

Television presenter returns to his Saddleworth roots

John Stapleton

TV presenter and broadcaster John Stapleton returned to Saddleworth recently to take part in a television programme about his life.

John, 67, was born in Oldham and was a pupil at Diggle Junior school, he currently presents on ITV’s ‘Daybreak’ show and the homecoming feature for the BBC’s ‘The One Show’ was broadcast a few weeks ago.
