The Grotton area has unfortunately again seen a robbery incident where a car has now been taken.

This incident occurred on Langley Avenue off Lane Drive, Coverhill Road. Here at around 23:50hrs on the evening of Thursday 9th November an elderly couple were approached as they arrived home in their X1 BMW in white.

A number of fruit trees that form part of Oldham’s community ‘fruit route’ have been destroyed by vandals last week in Grotton.

Oldham Council’s parks department say they are aware of the damage and are liaising with Greater Manchester Police who are also investigating.

Grotton family left devastated after a camera containing priceless pictures of their dead son is stolen in burglary

A camera containing pictures of a beloved son who recently died was stolen during a burglary in Oldham.

Sometime between 8.30am and 12.30pm on Friday 23 November 2012, a house on Thornley Park Road, Grotton was broken onto.

The offenders searched the home and stole jewellery including watches, earrings and bracelets, money and a camera.

The Fuji camera had pictures of the victim’s 23-year-old son who had tragically died.

Police are appealing for information after a house was burgled today on Brookside Ave at Grotton.

Police are urging local residents to be vigilant and report anything suspicious to them,

Tickets On Sale For Children’s Halloween Show

Tickets have gone on sale for a special Halloween theatre performance at Grotton Pavilion. Oldham Children’s Theatre, which has in the past put on Christmas and Easter shows at Uppermill Civic Hall, is turning its attention to something a little spookier!

The fun runs between 3pm and 7pm on 30 October. There’ll be a variety of activities taking place which youngsters can get involved in, including haunted horror stories, bobbing for apples, pumpkin carving and face painting.

Crash Blocks Oldham Road At Lydgate

Oldham Road at Lydgate was closed by police during this morning’s rush hour, after a car crash in the middle of the roadworks.

One vehicle was involved, and it hit a lamppost. An ambulance was called by nearby workmen, who are carrying out retaining wall repairs between Lydgate and Grotton, at about 8:20am.

Police Renew Warning Over Saddleworth Burglaries

Saddleworth residents are once again being warned to make sure they keep their properties and vehicles secure.

That follows another burglary in which car keys were stolen from inside a house, and a car was then taken from the drive.

The latest incident took place in Grotton on Sunday night. According to officers, the thief or thieves got in through an “insecure” door before making off with a Volkswagen Golf.

Grotton Man Plans Coast To Coast Charity Challenge

A fundraiser from Grotton will take part in an epic coast-to-coast walk this month, to raise money for a charity which helps his son, who has Cerebral Palsy.

Steve Bradley is planning to follow the route of Alfred Wainwright’s 192-mile route from the Cumbrian coast to Whitby in North Yorkshire.

He’s doing it in aid of the Stick ‘n’ Step centre, a Merseyside-based charity which helps youngsters from across the north west tackle their disability.

Parish Council Discusses Prospect Of More Powers

The notion of more power being devolved to Saddleworth by both Oldham Council and the national government was debated by parish councillors this week.

During Monday night’s regular monthly meeting, they discussed a resolution proposed by the four Independent members, which suggested inviting Oldham Council officials to discuss the new Labour administration’s plans for so-called District Town Halls.

New Grotton Co-op Granted Alcohol Licence

The Grotton Hotel

The new Co-op store due to open in the Grotton Hotel building has been given a licence to sell alcohol for up to 14 hours a day.

Oldham Council’s Licensing Panel agreed yesterday that the shop should be allowed to sell booze between 8am and 10pm every day except Sundays, when the hours will be 10am to 10pm.
