TV and film crews have been saying ‘Hooray for Hollinwood’ and ‘Yanks for the memories’ after choosing the borough as a location for a string of productions.

Over the coming months residents should keep their eyes peeled as some well-known local landmarks and faces appear on our screens.

Denshaw Village Cinema has released information about films they will be showing between January and April 2014.

They were chosen at a Film Selection Party of regular patrons which was held at the beginning of December and represent the best of the best of recent films.

Filming For BBC Documentary At Saddleworth School

Film-makers from award-winning local company Bigger Picture have been in action at Saddleworth School this week.

The Saddleworth-and-Manchester-based firm recorded youngsters from the Saddleworth Guitar Group playing Somewhere Over The Rainbow, for a forthcoming BBC documentary.

The guitar group initially caught the eye of John Mathews, Uppermill resident and producer of the programme, to be called Madness On Wheels.

Lees Community Film Project

Residents of Lees and nearby places, including Springhead, are being asked for their memories of the area for a new community film project, which has been commissioned by Oldham’s libraries.

Holmfirth Film Festival Starts This Weekend

The second annual Holmfirth Film Festival opens on Saturday. There’s a packed programme of movies to enjoy at venues across the town until it ends a week on Sunday.

The festival starts at 2pm tomorrow at the Picturedrome with a double-bill of children’s films, French classic The Red Balloon and Oscar-nominated The Secret of Kells.

Help Wanted For Saddleworth Film

Two former Saddleworth School pupils are making a movie, and are asking for help. Producer Seth Elkins and writer and actor Sophie Mercer are currently in the pre-production stages of the film, Keeping Secrets.

Sophie’s almost finished the movie’s script, and once that’s done they’ll be appealing for people to audition for some of the roles. They’re also keen for suggestions as to locations in our area which could be used for filming.

Holmfirth Film Festival Begins

The Holmfirth Film Festival starts today. There’s a week of events in store including movie screenings and talks, some of which are free.

Much of the festival takes place at the Picturedrome, and this afternoon between 2pm and 5pm is hosts a free festival launch party. Later tonight there’s a red carpet event with a screening of a short film by Huddersfield director Adam Wimpenny, before a showing of 1960 classic Saturday Night and Sunday Morning.

Holmfirth Film Festival Programme Revealed

A day dedicated to the life and career of Huddersfield-born Hollywood star James Mason forms the centrepiece of next month’s Holmfirth Film Festival. The full programme of events has now been revealed by the festival’s organisers.

The festival runs for a week from Saturday 22 May, and begins with a red carpet premiere for a short film by local director Adam Wimpenny, to be followed by a screening of 1960 classic Saturday Night and Sunday Morning.

Entries Required For Short Film Competition

The first Holmfirth Film Festival takes place in May, and aspiring film-makers have the chance to enter a short film competition. Organisers say they want “quirky and individual” films inspired by the people and places of the Holme Valley.
