Ten Candidates To Fight By-Election

Ten candidates are standing in the Oldham East and Saddleworth by-election. The list was revealed by election officials after nominations closed this afternoon.

Among the notable absentees is BNP leader Nick Griffin. He had indicated he was considering putting his name forward, but instead the party will be represented by Derek Adams.

Nominations Open For Saddleworth By-Election

Nominations have opened for the Oldham East and Saddleworth by-election. Candidates have until 4pm this Thursday to complete the necessary paperwork to allow them to stand.

The Liberal Democrats carried out the formalities this morning. Candidate Elwyn Watkins was joined by his election agent, Dobcross-based parish councillor Phil Renold, to hand in the required forms.
