The annual concert of remembrance presented by the Saddleworth Male Voice Choir will be held at the Civic Hall in Uppermill on Saturday 12 November, at 7:30pm.

Marsden Jazz Festival This Weekend

One of the highlights of the local cultural calendar takes place this weekend. It’s the Marsden Jazz Festival, which is marking its 20th year.

More than 70 events will take place in and around the village across Friday, Saturday and Sunday, with 7,000 visitors expected to see something of the festival. Gigs are scheduled for venues large and small, ranging from the Mechanics Institute to street performances.

New Season Of Saddleworth Chamber Concerts

A new series of Saddleworth Chamber Concerts has been announced.

It’s the 37th season of concerts put on by the Chamber Concerts Society, which was founded back in 1975.

The first of four concerts at the Millgate Arts Centre in Delph will take place on Wednesday 5 October. The Barbirolli String Quartet, the quartet in residence at Salford University, will be performing works by Haydn, Bliss and Beethoven.

Blues And Brass Concerts Coming Up At Diggle Band Club

The 2:19 Blues Band in action at the Hanging Gate during this year's Diggle Blues Festival.

Music From The Movies At Diggle Band Club

Tickets are available now for the next in the series of themed concerts by Diggle Band at the village’s Band Club.

Music From The Movies will take place on Sunday 31 July, beginning at 7:30pm. The band will be conducted by James Shepherd, and Saddleworth’s own international whistling champion David Morris will be compere for the evening.

Tickets priced £6 can be bought now from Diggle Band Club, Diggle and Uppermill Post Offices, or from Dorothy Rhodes on 01457 873937.

Local Pink Floyd Band Back At Uppermill Civic Hall

A Pink Floyd tribute band fronted by an Uppermill musician return to the Civic Hall this Saturday night.

Diggle Blues Festival In Full Swing

The 2:19 Blues Band in action at the Hanging Gate.

This was the scene at the Hanging Gate in Diggle on Saturday night, as the 2:19 Blues Band rounded off the second evening of the Diggle Blues Festival.

There was a healthy crowd inside the pub, including event organiser David Wood, who had a big smile on his face as he told me the festival had been “brilliant” so far.

Diggle Blues Festival This Weekend

The Diggle Blues Festival takes place this weekend, with free concerts scheduled at four venues across the village on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. It’s the second year of the event, which was inspired by the ongoing success of the Marsden Jazz Festival.

Friends Of Saddleworth Church Summer Concert

The Oldham Choir and The Choir of St Chad Church will be performing a summer concert organised by the Friends of Saddleworth Church next month.

Scheduled to take place at the church above Uppermill on 3pm on Sunday 10 July, the concert will include a performance of Faure’s Requiem, and will be conducted by Dr Eileen Bentley, with Gary Hulme on the organ.

The Frolick To Bring Baroque To Saddleworth Festival

Award-winning baroque group The Frolick will be treating Saddleworth to a taste of 18th Century London during the Festival of the Arts, which begins in just over a week.

They’ll be performing what they describe as songs of “love, recession, melancholy, drinking and riotous fun” at St Anne’s Church in Lydgate on Tuesday 7 June at 7:30pm.
