Closure On Stoneswood Road In Delph Today

Denshaw Road is closed near Delph School.

Another road closure takes effect in Delph today, albeit for one day only.

A 150m section of Stoneswood Road will close as part of work to repair retaining walls. According to paperwork circulated by Oldham Council and its Unity Partnership, drivers will be diverted around Oldham Road, The Sound and Millgate instead.

Denshaw Road Roadworks To Resume In Delph

Denshaw Road in Delph will be closed again from this weekend, as work to upgrade the village’s sewers continues.

The work by United Utilities could see the road shut until 4 September, although after previous instalments of the repairs finished well ahead of schedule, the road may reopen before then.

This will be gone tomorrow.

Denshaw Road in Delph is going to be open again from sometime tomorrow, well ahead of schedule.

Work by United Utilities has been taking place over the past week to upgrade the sewer system to guard against future flooding.

Snow Problems Ease As Weather Improves

An improvement in the weather has meant the disruption which has affected Saddleworth this week has eased today. Several schools have been shut, but those are expected to re-open tomorrow as things start to get back to normal.

Several Schools Closed As Snow Continues

There probably aren't that many tourists around today.

Several of Saddleworth’s schools will be closed today as the snow causes a third day of serious disruption to our area. Some bus services will again be diverted, while most roads remain passable but only with great care.

Saddleworth Snow Gets Heavier

Drivers struggle through blizzard conditions on Wool Road this morning.

It’s a real white-out in Saddleworth today, after more heavy snow fell both overnight and during this morning. Roads have been closed and bus services diverted, with most local schools closing early.

The A640 Nont Sarahs road between Denshaw and Scammonden was shut altogether, while many other routes were only passable with extreme care. Long delays and stop-start traffic was reported in both directions on the M62 past Saddleworth.

Fresh Snow Likely To Cause More Disruption

Snow Affects Bin Collections And Buses

Several inches of snow overnight has left Saddleworth fully blanketed in white for the first time this winter, and has led to disruption to local services including bin collections and buses.

Oldham Council announced this morning that all refuse collections in Saddleworth had been suspended because of the weather. A decision will be made tomorrow as to whether the collections can resume.

Council Apologises For Delph School Road Safety Delays

Oldham Council has apologised for the delays in completing new road safety measures outside Delph School. One of the vehicle-activated signs put up as part of traffic calming measures still hasn’t been switched on, with the council blaming United Utilities for the wait.

Delph Traffic Survey Shows Support For 20mph Zone

Campaigners in Delph say there’s now “overwhelming” support for a 20mph zone outside the village school. The organisers of a local survey have revealed the results, which they argue demonstrates backing among residents for a pedestrian crossing next to the school, as well as better signs around Delph Bridge.

Council Responds To Delph School Safety Concerns

Oldham Council has responded to claims that a pedestrian crossing is now “clearly required” as part of the safety zone outside Delph School. A senior councillor has said that new road signs warning motorists about the school safety zone will be going up during the summer holidays, adding that just two people in last year’s public consultation asked for a full pedestrian crossing on Denshaw Road.
