The police ask the BNP's Derek Adams to leave.

The organisers of yesterday’s controversial by-election debate in Delph have defended their decision to ask the police to escort the BNP candidate from the building. Derek Adams had staged a sit-in protest on the stage, because he hadn’t been invited to join five other candidates on the panel.

The event was put on by the Delph Community Association and Delph Traffic Group. In a statement tonight, the organisers said: “No […]

Candidate Interview: Derek Adams (BNP)

BNP Chairman Nick Griffin (left) with candidate Derek Adams in Lees yesterday.

The BNP’s candidate in the Oldham East and Saddleworth by-election has said “high unemployment and anti-white racism” are the main issues for his campaign.

Derek Adams also used an interview with Saddleworth News to say he had “a little bit of sympathy” with former MP Phil Woolas, who was stripped of his victory in May’s general election for telling lies about an opponent in his election leaflets.

Ten candidates are standing in the Oldham East and Saddleworth by-election. The list was revealed by election officials after nominations closed this afternoon.

By-Election Looms As Woolas Gives In

Phil Woolas has admitted defeat in his attempts to overturn the ruling which threw him out of parliament. The ex-Labour minister said he had reached […]

Field Grows Ahead Of Potential By-Election

Cllr Ken Hulme is considering standing if there's a by-election.

Even though we don’t know for sure whether there’s actually going to be a by-election here in Saddleworth, parties large and small have certainly been preparing for one. And the number of potential candidates is growing all the time.

Labour is in the uncomfortable position of waiting for the outcome of the appeal being brought by former MP Phil Woolas. He was stripped of his general election victory for […]

There are also four Greens and two independents. Labour gained two seats in Thurday’s poll, while the Conservatives lost two, dashing Tory hopes of becoming the largest party.

Talks have been taking place over the weekend between the different sides to decide on the make-up of the council’s administration. From now on, […]
