Emergency services attend to the injured after the head-on crash

Five people have been injured after two cars collided on the A635, Holmfirth Road, at Greenfield this afternoon.

Emergency services were called to the accident at around 5.30pm, after reports of a head-on crash involving two vehicles.

Mossley Admit Fielding Ineligible Player In Cup Tie

This week’s round-up of local football begins with Mossley, who have owned up to fielding an ineligible player during last week’s Doodson Cup match against Curzon Ashton.

Double Defeat Leaves Mossley Bottom

Mossley have sunk to the bottom of the Evo Stik League Division One North, following two defeats over the Bank Holiday weekend.

On Saturday, Skelmersdale got the better of Mossley 3-1. Monday’s local derby with a Curzon Ashton side packed with former Mossley players was lost 4-0.

Family Fun Day In Aid Of Cancer Research

The organisers of a charity family fun day in Ashton later this month have been in touch, as they’re keen to attract people from across the local area.

It’s in aid of Cancer Research UK, and takes place at Breakthrough City Church International on Ripon Street on Saturday 23 July, between 11am and 4pm. It’s just 50p entry for adults, and children get in free.

Mossley have moved up to 10th place in the Evo Stik League Division One North. That’s after a comfortable 3-0 win over Wakefield at Seel Park last night.

Matty Kay scored twice, after Michael Oates had opened the scoring. The result makes up for Mossley’s recent 3-2 defeat away to last night’s opponents.

Man Charged With Uppermill Burglary

A 21-year-old man has been charged following a burglary which took place in Uppermill over the weekend. According to a statement from the local police here in Saddleworth, a car, computer equipment and MP3 players were taken during the incident.

The statement sent to Saddleworth News read: “Christopher Kingsley of Palace Road, Ashton, has been charged with burglary, dangerous driving, driving without a licence and driving without insurance.”

UFO Seen Over Saddleworth

A UFO has been spotted in the skies above Saddleworth. A Dobcross resident reported seeing a stationary bright orange light at about 10pm on Sunday night. A similar sighting occurred in Ashton the previous evening.

Christina Wright used the UK UFO website to report Sunday’s sighting. She said the light was: “Observed from the rear window of our property in Dobcross. Saw one orange orb – stationary for a a couple of minutes then faded into the clouds.”
