Local cycling club Saddleworth Clarion once again hosted the prestigious Saddleworth Mountain Time Trial recently, a challenging individual effort up the A635 Isle of Skye road towards Holmfirth and back through Meltham over the B6108 Wessenden Head including over 500 metres of climbing.

Following last year’s success the event was massively oversubscribed which led to some pre-ride disappointment as the field was limited to 75 riders.

These dramatic pictures highlight the fury and frustration of farmers and conservationists battling to protect a major beauty spot.

Five people have been injured after two cars collided on the A635, Holmfirth Road, at Greenfield this afternoon.

Emergency services were called to the accident at around 5.30pm, after reports of a head-on crash involving two vehicles.

Three men in one of the vehicles, a Vauxhall Astra, were taken to hospital.

Lorry crashes on A635 Holmfirth Road above Greenfield this afternoon

A lorry has crashed this afternoon on Saddleworth Moor above Greenfield.

The accident happened at around 3.30pm as the lorry was travelling from Holmfirth towards Greenfield on the A635.

Snow Causes Problems On Saddleworth Roads

The Huddersfield Narrow Canal on Saturday.

Snow on Saturday afternoon and evening led to problems on roads in and around Saddleworth, with drivers warned not to travel unless necessary.

At least 10cm of snow fell. Drivers faced long delays on the M62 over the tops because of blizzard conditions, with westbound traffic moving very slowly for several hours after a breakdown blocked two lanes near J22.

Crash On A635 Isle Of Skye Road

Two vehicles were involved in an accident on the A635 Isle of Skye Road on Wednesday afternoon.

Police were called to the incident between Greenfield and Holmfirth shortly after 4:30pm, and found a red Ford Mondeo and a Jeep Commander partly blocking the road after a collision.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesman said there were no reports of any injuries, but there was some debris spread around the carriageway. Officers from West Yorkshire Police assisted GMP at the scene.

Police Break Up Huge Party On Saddleworth Moor

Dozens of youths were involved in a party on Saddleworth Moor in the early hours of yesterday, which had to be broken up by the police.

Officers were called to the scene on the A635 Greenfield to Holmfirth road at 12:45am, following complaints of noise including loud music.

Police turn back vehicles at the Clarence roundabout in Greenfield this morning.

A motorcyclist crashed and was killed this morning on the A635 Isle of Skye Road between Greenfield and Holmfirth. The accident happened at about 11 o’clock, just on the Saddleworth side of the district boundary.
