Saddleworth’s Skuse Sees Off Stayley

Saddleworth’s cricketers defeated Stayley on Saturday in their latest Saddleworth League match. Here’s a report by Graham Oldham:

AFTER A LATE START because of the weather, professional Peter Skuse used the slope at Stayley to his advantage, taking 7/21 as Stayley were dismissed for only 73.

With clouds again gathering, Saddleworth openers Michael Jones (41 not out) and Danny Hesford (31 not out) knocked off the runs in 13 overs.

18-year-old overseas amateur Jones was playing his last game for us as he has been recalled for a two week “camp” at the Australian Cricket Academy. He was still searching for his first six in England which he achieved off the very last ball.

In a rain-interrupted second XI match at the Well-i-Hole, Stayley were dismissed for 135, Lee Bayliss taking 7/37. In reply Saddleworth had scored 114/8 when “time” was called with seven overs remaining, leaving the match drawn.

Many thanks to Graham for that. On Monday, Saddleworth were involved in the day’s Twenty20 Cup action, but after they reached the final against Heyside, play was then rained off for the day, leading to some doubt about what will happen next. The Oldham Chronicle article about it is here.
