Saddleworth Village Olympics recently organised a crown green bowling taster session at Friezland Bowling Club.
Organisers said the village Olympics crown green bowling second taster day at Friezland Bowling Club attracted some “fresh new faces” to the sport.
A spokesperson told Saddleworth News: “The organising committee will now assess the success of the event and decide whether or not to include this sport in the schedule this year or in later years but would like to thank the committee’s of both Dobcross and Friezland bowling clubs for assisting them in putting on both events.”
The committee also welcomed work done by Uppermill Methodist Church who provided the games with a new flag after the original one went missing.
Some eagle-eyed spectators at last years Olympics opening ceremony spotted that the traditional flag, that is usually at the front of the opening procession, was missing. After many years of service the old flag had unfortunately been misplaced.
“Thankfully the ladies of Uppermill Methodist Church (UMC) have come to the rescue for this years event and have hand-made a new one for the Olympics Committee in order that the traditional opening ceremony can once again be held.
“The Organising Committee would like to pass on their thanks to UMC for their generosity,” the spokesperson added.
