The annual Saddleworth Ruschart Festival started in Uppermill on Saturday morning as the Saddleworth Morris Men performed in the Square outside the Commercial Hotel.
Large crowds were treated to a colourful display of traditional Morris dancing enhanced by the sounds of jangling bells on the dozens of clogs worn by the dancers, many travelling from all parts of the country. After the dancing the Morris Men pulled the rushcart from Uppermill to Greenfield, as the tour of the local villages began.
On Sunday the cart was at Saddleworth Church with more dancing and entertainment taking place, including stalls, bric-a-brac, raffles as well as the traditional games.
Dressed in their unique regalia, Morris Men from various parts of the country performed many different dance styles – all to the delight of the hundreds of spectators.
