Police Issue Scrap Metal Warning

Saddleworth residents have been told to be on the lookout for anyone suspicious trying to sell scrap metal door-to-door. That follows a rise in metal thefts in other parts of the borough of Oldham.

In a letter circulated in the local area over the weekend, the Saddleworth and Lees police team has asked for help. It reads: “This is a real problem. It creates victims of crime, income for drug users and marginalises decent people who make a genuine living from scrap metal.”

The letter goes on: “The police will be making efforts to stop and speak to any individuals they see driving vehicles full of scrap; these individuals will be subject to extensive checks.”

To ring the Saddleworth and Lees police team directly call the Uppermill office on 0161 856 4524. The best number to use for out-of-hours calls is 0161 872 5050, but in an emergency, always dial 999.

You can get up-to-date information from our local officers from their website here, and their Twitter feed here.

A reminder that the website is also the place to go for Tuesday evening’s online question-and-answer session, which will run between 6pm and 7:30pm.

More details about that can be found in a Saddleworth News article here.
