Mossley Admit Fielding Ineligible Player In Cup Tie

This week’s round-up of local football begins with Mossley, who have owned up to fielding an ineligible player during last week’s Doodson Cup match against Curzon Ashton.

Mossley won 2-0 on the night, but now face being excluded from the competition.

A statement from club secretary Harry Hulmes reads: “It has come to light that Ben McNamara was not registered with the league in time to play in the match.”

It went on: “This will undoubtedly result in Mossley losing their place in the next round of the Doodson Sport Cup. As club secretary, I accept full responsibility and offer my sincere apologies to the committee, management, players and supporters.”

In Saturday’s league game at Seel Park, Mossley were held to a 1-1 draw by Prescot Cables, Keil O’Brien getting the home side’s goal. Mossley are 14th in the 22-team Evo Stik League Division One North, and you can see the table here.

More details including match reports are available at the Mossley website here. The club’s official Twitter feed is here.

Meanwhile, there was disappointment for Uppermill in the opening round of the West Riding Challenge Cup, as they went down 3-0 at Harrogate side Harlow Hill. The Uppermill club site is here and there’s a Twitter feed here.

In the Manchester League, Springhead drew 1-1 at AFC Bury on Saturday, leaving them 8th in the table as shown here.
