A lorry driver had to be airlifted to hospital after his vehicle was involved in a three-car crash on the M62 on Tuesday afternoon. The incident happened shortly after 1pm, close to Junction 21 for Milnrow.
The driver had to be freed from his cab by firefighters, and he was taken to Leeds General Infirmary by an air ambulance. The rescue operation can be seen in this picture, published courtesy of GPSJ News.
There was also a diesel spillage at the scene at the incident, which was on the eastbound carriageway. According to Greater Manchester Police, the road was fully reopened at about 5:25pm. However, in the meantime there was significant disruption to traffic in the area whicih continued to affect drivers well into the evening rush hour.
