The second annual Holmfirth Film Festival opens on Saturday. There’s a packed programme of movies to enjoy at venues across the town until it ends a week on Sunday.
The festival starts at 2pm tomorrow at the Picturedrome with a double-bill of children’s films, French classic The Red Balloon and Oscar-nominated The Secret of Kells.
Another highlight of the festival’s opening weekend comes on Sunday, when local artist Ashley Jackson presents his favourite film, Brassed Off, which was partly filmed in Saddleworth. The Honley Band will be playing outside the Picturedrome at 1pm, before the screening at 2pm, and the movie’s writer and director Mark Herman will then hold a question-and-answer session at 4pm.
