In Feb 2015 and then again in Aug 2017 Saddleworth News polled its readers asking where they would prefer the new Saddleworth School to be built. Saddleworth School is the local mixed-sex secondary school educating children of 11 to 16 years of age. It is presently located in Uppermill, Saddleworth.

The poll was conducted purely out of interest. The school awaits being built.

Rushcart 2017

Photos from Rushcart Annual Celebrations. On this weekend there is an influx of Morris Men into the village from all over the UK. The Rushcart is pulled around the Saddleworth Villages, with lots of dancing and drinking, to eventually arrive up at Saddleworth Church where they lay the rushes on the floor. Uppermill Community Association Update

UPPERMILL COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION – Supported by Canal and River Trust UCAN has had a busy Summer so far, reaching the milestone of 1000 hours of volunteer labour since our formation. Every year in the Saddleworth area there is a time warp back to the 1940’s when celebrations take part, connected to the filming of a scene in the 1979 cinema release Yanks.
