Diggle FC reach cup final

Paul Swallow got Diggle's first goal.

Diggle FC reached the Huddersfield League Barlow Cup Final with a gusty 4-3 extra time victory over Shepley FC on Easter Monday.

Shepley stormed into a 2-0 lead mid way through the first half, before Diggle pulled a goal back before half time from a Paul Swallow header. In the second half Diggle drew level through Nathan Boote, forcing the game into extra time.

Burglary in Grotton this afternoon

Police are appealing for information after a house was burgled today on Brookside Ave at Grotton.

Police are urging local residents to be vigilant and report anything suspicious to them,

An old photograph of Platt Lane, Dobcross, taken around 1910 and showing ‘Cockleshell Cottage’ on the right and a barn on the left that was demolished in the mid 1970’s. A house now stands on the site of the barn.

An interesting old photo of Saddleworth School taken around 1962 we believe, and it’s interesting to to see the now demolished “Finlandia Restaurant” then later “Village Manor” in the lower right of the picture.

The railway line in the background was probably still operational when this picture was taken.

Saddleworth Carers Group – information

The Carers’ group is a sub-group of the Patient Participation Group. It continues to meet twice per month from 10 a.m. in the room at the back of the Roman Catholic Church in Uppermill. For details of the group please contact Eamon on 01457 810614 or Kath on 01457 871598.

New Slimming Group In Diggle

Becky Symons, who will be leading the new Slimming World group in Diggle.

There’s a new opportunity for Saddleworth folk who fancy losing a bit of weight. A Slimming World group will begin meeting in Diggle in a week’s time.

The group will be led by Becky Symons. The first get-together is next Tuesday night at 7pm in the Wrigley Mill Methodist Hall, and meetings will take place at the same time on every Tuesday after that.

Candidate Interview: Derek Adams (BNP)

The BNP’s candidate in the Oldham East and Saddleworth by-election has said “high unemployment and anti-white racism” are the main issues for his campaign.

Derek Adams also used an interview with Saddleworth News to say he had “a little bit of sympathy” with former MP Phil Woolas, who was stripped of his victory in May’s general election for telling lies about an opponent in his election leaflets.
