An interview with Neil Cadd from the Holdcroft Group

Reporter: Judith Grinter

Tell us a little about yourself Neil

I was born and bred in Oldham and have sold cars in and around the town for more years than I care to mention, but have a great regard for Oldham and will do my best to help it and those who live in and around it. You won’t get pressurised sales pitches to buy this buy that from some guy who will do anything to get a sale, I’d rather the customer get the right vehicle for them and their business and if on this occasion I can’t supply it then so be it, perhaps next time, but we certainly won’t fall out over it, life’s too short.

And a little about your new role in the business?

Following the acquisition of Vantage Hyundai and Mazda in Oldham by the Holdcroft Group in December it was decided to open up a satellite unit in Oldham for the fleet department which is based in Hanley to expand into the area.

My new role allows me to provide many vehicles from manufacturers who aren’t represented in the area and with the current hot topic of electric cars can provide extended term demonstration vehicles, help and advice for anyone looking to this type of vehicle especially the Hyundai Ioniq which has just won a !What Car” car of the year award and the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV which we supplied over 1800 of last year making us the largest Mitsubishi dealer in the world.

As a large player in the fleet and contract hire market (we delivered nearly 7000 cars and vans last year), the majority of which came from within our own dealerships, (we hold eight different franchises along with a prestige used site). These were prepared in a purpose built centre then delivered by our own transporters so we can keep control of everything from the initial enquiry to the handover to the customer.

The fleet and leasing market is very competitive, and is often price led, but the best deal doesn’t stop at the bottom line, we know we go the extra mile, we don’t just take the order and then pass it on to a dealership somewhere to deliver the vehicle, we take ownership of that vehicle and pride ourselves in making sure the customer is completely satisfied and if anything goes wrong which as with any piece of machinery it can, you won’t get the dreaded “ring your nearest dealer” answer, we are that dealer who can offer a solution.

What does Saddleworth mean to you?

I live in Springhead and have done for all my married life which is now thirty six years, prior to that I was born and lived in Glodwick.

I am a local lad who likes to look after his local community, I am currently serving on the Mayor of Oldham’s fundraising committee.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

I have played and been secretary of a couple of clubs in the Saddleworth Cricket league for many years. Both my son and I play at Greenfield and I had the pleasure of three years at Delph CC including their record treble winning season much of which I documented with thousands of photographs on their website.

Surprise us!

I have looked after local businesses in the area for nearly twenty years now, many of them based in Saddleworth.
