Oldham Council’s plans to get tough on inconsiderate dog owners could have an impact in Saddleworth. The council has begun a public consultation on proposals which include banning dogs from children’s play areas and forcing dog owners to keep their pets on leads in certain parks.

The rain didn’t prevent thousands of people heading to Churchill Fields yesterday for the Saddleworth Show. Along with the usual array of stalls, competitions and entertainment, racing camels made for an exotic addition to the day’s fun.

The Saddleworth Show is tomorrow, and a free shuttle bus is being laid on to take people from Uppermill to Churchill Fields where the day’s events are taking place. The Saddleworth Beer Walk takes place today. It’s the 37th time drinkers have taken part in the annual event to raise money for charity.
Last year, the walkers themselves raised more than £80,000, with organisers the Saddleworth Round Table bringing in a further £31,000. The Round Table distributes the cash to various charities throughout the year.
